Dahlia Decorative ‘Masterclass’ is a study in quiet sophistication, its fully double blooms unfolding in perfectly arranged layers of broad, silky petals that seem to glow from within. Each petal begins as soft ivory, delicately tipped with a whisper of lavender that gradually melts into creamy white as the flower matures, creating a gentle, ever-changing watercolor effect. The form is classic and composed—symmetrical yet lush—while the coloring remains airy and refined, allowing it to blend effortlessly into any garden or bouquet. ‘Masterclass’ doesn’t demand attention; it draws it, with a subtle elegance that feels polished, serene, and undeniably graceful.

Planting Directions

  • When to Plant: Plant tubers in spring after all danger of frost has passed and the soil has warmed.

  • Sun Exposure: Select a site with full sun, receiving at least 6–8 hours of direct sunlight daily.

  • Soil: Use fertile, well-drained soil. Enrich heavy or poor soils with compost or organic matter to improve drainage and fertility.

  • Planting Depth: Dig a hole 4–6 inches deep. Place the tuber horizontally with the eye or growing point facing upward.

  • Spacing: Space plants 24–36 inches apart to accommodate the large mature size and ensure good airflow.

  • Watering: Water lightly after planting. Once shoots appear, water deeply and regularly, allowing the soil surface to dry slightly between waterings.

  • Staking: Strong stakes or supports are essential at planting time to support the weight of the large blooms and prevent wind damage.

  • Pinching: When plants reach 12–16 inches tall, pinch the main growing tip to encourage branching and increased flower production.

  • Fertilizing: Apply a low-nitrogen fertilizer during the growing season to promote flower development rather than excessive foliage.

  • Bloom Period: Flowers appear from midsummer and continue until the first frost.

  • Overwintering: In colder regions, dig tubers after frost blackens the foliage, allow them to dry, and store in a cool, dry, frost-free location until spring.
